The Escarpment Track - Wellington

Macs Outdoor Co travelled to New Zealand recently stopping off in Wellington to co-host a community run along the Escarpment Track from Pukerua Bay to Peakākāriki.

The event aptly named Run for the Hills, was with the Personal Best Run crew lead by founders Doug and Prak and is the 5th event in the monthly series.

The day started with a meeting at 7:45 am at the cities coolest outdoor emporium, Coffee Outdoors where pre-run coffee was dispensed by owners Tom and Shev.

Over coffee, runners also had the opportunity to be fitted in a pair of Norda 001's from the test fleet to trial on the 10.5km route.

A quick 30-40 min bus ride, and we were at the southern end of the track in Pukerua Bay.

Exiting the bus, the Crew quickly climbed the track that wound through grassed clearings and turned up along steep, single track path.

The route was simply breathtaking, meandering along steep ridge lines and narrow paths that dropped to the shore many feet below.  Steep in places, and steps galore (more than 1,200), the quads were getting a workout.  2 suspension bridges with 5 person maximum load, made for a bouncy interesting traverse, and dodging sheep droppings kept you on your toes.

Once off the ridge, the path continued along side the railway, and thorough some enclosed canopy paths, for a peaceful end and popping out at Peakākāriki.

Many runners cooled off with a quick dip, pastries and refreshments.  Provided by our friends at Coffee Supreme and Almighty Active.

The crew were amazing and the day’s memories will remain a highlight in the journey so far.
